The Fight Never Ends.
As I mentioned in the previous newsletter, my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer and she is now going through chemotherapy. She was initially put on a 3-week cycle and the effects from the first session weren’t so bad. She was just a little tired for a few days after the treatment.
But about 2 weeks later, she lost large chunks of her hair. It was pretty traumatic, even though everyone warned her that it was inevitable. However, she did eventually come to grips with it and even jokes about it now.
Then, after her second treatment, she suddenly developed an allergic reaction to one of the medicines. It got so bad that I had to rush her to the emergency room late one night and I got pulled over for speeding. The cop eventually recognized that her condition was getting worse by the second so he escorted us to the hospital.
She recovered (although a rash still pops up now and then) and the doctor switched her medicine to something they call the “red devil” and changed her schedule to every 2 weeks.
This new med is apparently the most powerful she can take and it really knocked her for a loop — putting her down for about 5 days. It’s taking such a heavy toll that the doctor is considering stopping her treatments and just removing the tumor, depending on how the next one goes.
The good news is that the tumor did shrink about 30% between the first and second treatments.
Once again, I ask that anyone reading this consider going to the Fund My Comic page and getting some or all of the books up for grabs. Any additional funds coming in would be of great help since both me and my wife’s paychecks have basically been cut in half.
And if you’ve already picked up a book, sharing this link on your socials could be just as impactful. Thank you!

A Slight Change of Plans
Since our finances aren’t so healthy and since I’ve got a lot of stuff going on now, I’ve come up with a new plan for the foreseeable future. I don’t think I will bother with any new crowdfunders this year and I will instead just concentrate on developing projects for 2025.
The first is to bang out the scripts for Epic of Darkness #3. The second is to further develop the concepts for future issues of the all-ages anthology, Book of Legend.
Speaking of which…
I recently came to an agreement with Ben to part ways so I could pursue developing the project with a new artist. At least, the character designs, anyway.
As I mentioned before, he just wasn’t able to produce work in what I considered to be a timely manner. I did pay him, though, since there are some elements he came up with that I’ll probably use in the finished concept. And I’ll keep him up-to-date, in case he might want to do a pin-up or some other artwork for the finished book. So we left on good terms.
Here’s just a few of the designs the new artist, Abray Tart, recently completed. You can go back to previous newsletters and find the other teaser art by Ben. I’m kinda curious to see if anyone can figure out what the story might be about. Consider it a fun little game!
Reeeeeee-color!
I know at some point, somewhere, I mentioned that I would probably have the cover for Epic of Darkness #3 (which was the back cover of issue #2) recolored because I wasn’t satisfied with the original job.
So, I recently had Lucia Duarte (the eventual colorist for Neotheric #5, hopefully) try her hand at it and I think she did an amazing job.
Again, for any of those unaware, this is an homage to the original Doom PC game cover.
Until next time!
